A
Gentle Art
I
saw a rocker made of wood
Lovingly shaped by hands
Whose gentle art had formed each piece
According to its plan.
I questioned then its maker's bent,
"Why did you make it so?"
And he replied, "For beauty and . .
To span an age or so."
I saw a
child whose mother's care
Had gently shaped a man.
Her loving heart has fashioned him
Conforming to God's plan.
I questioned then the mother's bent,
"Why have you taught him so?"
And she replied, "Beyond this life . . .
Is eternity, you know."
