WHAT’S
INSIDE YOUR SPIRITUAL CLOSET?
By
Phylenia French
Have
you thrown wide open the doors of your spiritual closet lately?
What
might you find suspended there on the bent and sagging hangers?
Are
there shabby garments of misuse in your spiritual freedom? Does
a dusty drape of complacency take its place between a wrinkled
blouse of unbelief and a starched cape of legalism?
Could
there be cobwebs hanging in the corners creating barriers that
stunt your spiritual maturity; trapping every new truth
presented to you, preventing your making use of them?
Is
there debris scattered over the floor of the closet, which you
have allowed to accumulate that should have been tossed out with
the garbage? Finally, has the light gone out, not allowing you
to see inside the closet?
Just
as we keep the light off some places in the house so that the
“dirt” won’t be noticed, so those who are practicing evil
won’t come to the light lest their deeds are exposed.
Deliberate study of God’s Word positions you in the light and
will reveal the “garments” which are hanging in the recesses
(closet) of your heart. John 3:19-20
Envision
yourself embarking upon a fall or spring “clean-up” of your
life. Let it bring a refreshing and renewal to your spiritual
closet.
Opening
the door wide is the first step to discovering what lurks within
and allows you to take inventory. In essence, we are really
opening our spiritual eyes so we can look deep inside to remove
the old and replace it with the new.
Scripture
reveals to us the importance of putting on Christ, being clothed
with His righteousness and glory. Romans 13:14 and Galatians
3:27
Let’s
look into the Word to see how we may first open the door to our
spiritual lives and allow God to bring restoration, renewal and
refreshing.
